Clayton’s official slogan is “Premier Community for Active Families.” With several public parks, three golf courses and a state forest in town, Clayton is well-equipped to accommodate those who spend their free time outdoors. Public facilities in Clayton include open park space, picnic areas, and courts for basketball, volleyball, softball, baseball and tennis. The town’s three golf courses – Neuse Golf Club, Pine Hollow Golf Course and Riverwood Golf Club – are membership-based, but each allows non-members to play.
Clemmons Educational State Forest, located off of Old U.S. Route 70 West in Clayton, was North Carolina’s first educational state forest. The forest geography is characterized by pines and hardwoods, creeks and rolling hills. Visitors can explore trails and exhibits on their own or attend a class or workshop.
